Three of the wheels, on the bottom, are made of wood, and I imagen are the original. The fourth wheel is made of metal, pictured at the bottom of the picture near the grass. All four wheels are working castors.

Fun Facts History Lesson 101:
Steamer Trunks were popular back in the steam boat, stage coach and train days. The Titanic was one historical steam boat of this time period. People with money liked the dome topped trunks for several reasons. You paid for the size of your trunk, as we do suit cases on planes and such. So, dome shaped trunks offered more storage, therefore the need for extra trunks or suit cases was eliminated. If the trunk got rained on, water was less likely to pool up on the top. Also, it was hard to stack things on domed trunks, so they would be put at the top of the stacks. This offered less likeliness of damage and to be able to recover your trunk quicker. End of Fun Facts lesson. :)
