This is a like-new paperback copy of John Thomson's Victorian London Street Life, originally published in 1877. Thomson was most famous for being the appointed photographer to Queen Victoria and the Royal Geographic Society.
The book has 37 black and white photos that are intended to be a social commentary on urban, labor, and poor lifestyles of this era. Much of the accompanying text is written by journalist and activist Adolphe Smith. From the publishers: "Its powerful social realism will fascinate anyone interested in Victorian London, the history of photography or the evolution of social conscience in 19th-century England."
