Job searching can be challenging, discouraging, and isolating. It's hard to know where to apply, what to expect, and how to start. Fortunately, Goodwill’s Achieve Program has been successfully helping job seekers for more than seven years and has a 70% success rate at one-year job retention.
Goodwill's Achieve program brings job seekers together in a small group environment. A staff of instructors, career coaches, and job developers offer knowledge, encouragement, and on-going support that begins at enrollment and continues through the first year on the job. This knowledge includes general job search preparation from how to wow with the application and entice with a resume to how to excel on an interview and insights into what employers expect. Career Coaches also dig deeper into the individual’s motivation for work, personal barriers and how best to address them, and identifying an individualized career path.
The Achieve Program also assists with interview clothing, basic computer skills, and transportation assistance to get to and from programming, interviews, and employment until a paycheck is earned.
There is no cost to the Achieve Program, and anyone can attend an Information Session to learn more. Information Sessions are held every Friday at 10:00am as Goodwill’s Employment Center (3777 Sparks Dr. S.E. in Grand Rapids). Alternatively, people can contact Karen Walker at show contact info
if they are not able to attend one of these sessions or with any questions.
