If you are interested in raising this rare heritage breed, we can provide 100% pure Meishan breeding stock. Fall pricing is $500 each or $600 with AMBA (American Meishan Breeders Association) registration. 3 weaned gilts are available now with more to be farrowed soon. If you intend to raise meat pigs, consider crossing a Meishan sow (known for very large litters) with a Duroc or similar boar. We did so and got great results with the offspring!
The Meishan originates from China and is one of the world's oldest domesticated hog breeds. The meat is red, naturally juicy and well-marbled. Meishan pork is considered a delicacy in high-class restaurants, especially in Asia. The Meishans are perfect homestead pigs. They are extremely docile, respect fencing, sleep a lot, and do very well on pasture - a joy to be around. Another plus, sure to be noticed by those of you who have raised the typical commercial hog, Meishans tend to be far less 'piggy' (comparatively well-behaved) during feeding time . . . a great trait that has earned our family's appreciation during chore time!
We now have a registered breeding pair available (both born early 2018). Make an offer! We would prefer not to split these two lovely animals up (and absolutely no meat buyers). Both the boar and sow are proven. The sow, Xi Tang, is an exceptionally caring mother and the boar, Lao Pi, is gentle and friendly.
Also available for sale is one 4.5 month old Meishan barrow ($150) - first come, first serve!
