I'm curious whether there is any local interest in Peruvian cuy (large meat-type guinea pigs).
For those unfamiliar, cuy are a traditional livestock animal in Peru and other parts of South America. They are larger than typical pet guinea pigs and are raised for meat production, somewhat similarly to how rabbits are raised in North America. They are housed and cared for nearly the same way as meat rabbits.
At this point, I'm simply exploring whether there is interest in the area. Potential interests might include:
--Breeding stock for homesteads or small farms
--Processed meat for those who enjoy traditional cuy dishes
--Peruvian or other South American families looking for a local source
--Chefs interested in traditional or specialty foods
--Anyone curious about alternative small livestock
I do not currently have available animals, but may, in future. I'm simply trying to gauge local interest and connect with people who may be interested in the future.
If this is something that would interest you, feel free to send me a message and let me know whether you'd be interested in breeding stock, meat, or both.
