Glacier Fish Company is hiring for an Oiler Trainee to work onboard our catcher/processor vessel in the Bering Sea of Alaska. Oiler Trainees work aboard a catcher processing vessels in the Bering Sea, Gulf of Alaska and Aleutian Islands. They work under the Chief Engineer and Factory Foreman and assist with conducting repairs, fabrication and maintenance in the factory and other parts of the ship. The oiler trainee works half of shift as a Processor. Supervisors use this position to train for licensed positions in the engineering department. The oiler trainee position is entry level.

The ideal candidate for this position:
• Has a mechanical background
• Can work 60 to 90 contracts at sea
• Has experience working 16 hour shifts
• Experience in offshore, oil industry (not required)
• Is no stranger to hard work

Duties and Responsibilities as Oiler:
• Assists with vessel repairs and greasing equipment within the factory including pumps, motors, belts, and conveyors
• Troubleshoot problems with equipment onboard the vessel and assesses to determine most effective and efficient means of repair
• During vessel offloads in port; assist with adjusting belts, changing of hoses and filters.
• Understand and comply with all company safety policies and procedures

Processor Responsibilities:
• Convert raw product being fished into a frozen-at-sea, marketable product ready for sale
• Sort fish by species, size and condition
• Place product into freezers
• Operate and clean factory equipment
• Participate in offload of frozen product at end of trip

Physical Ability and Skills:
• Work 16 hours per day, 7 days a week in all kinds of weather conditions
o 8 hours in the factory/8 hours with Engineering
• Understand instructions and safety rules in English
• Capable of climbing and descending steep stairs and vertical ladders
• Perform repetitive tasks for long periods of time
• Be away from medical attention for up to 3 months
• Repeatedly lift and carry up to 50 pounds
• Share spaces with others including crew quarters, dining areas and bathrooms

• Compensation is a crew share (pay estimates provided during interview)

• Eligible for 401K after 1 year of employment
• Health/Dental benefits once eligibility requirements are met

Glacier Fish Co. is based in Seattle, WA. However, many of our employees live out of state. Employee is responsible for travel and hotel expenses to Seattle (point of hire). Company covers cost of flight from Seattle to Alaska.
